Emily Rice is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter from Tāmaki Makaurau. Her genre-crossing music delves into the world of electronic-dance, neo-soul & pop with her latest releases. Melodically, Emily Rice embraces influences from classic Jazz vocals with lyricism that weaves between English and her journey with te reo Māori. Emily brings a real feeling of warmth and aroha to her every performance, creating a space where the musicianship heightens storytelling and feeling.
For her live shows Emily is joined by an all-star 3-Piece band. Holding it down is the rock-solid, no-nonsense drums of Ollie O’Loughlin (Fazerdaze), joined by the inimitable groove-doctor Māia Huia (MOHI) on bass, and on guitar the psychedelic wizardry of Callum Lee (Rewind Fields). An eclectic collective, the foursome combines to create ethereal soundscapes that float over an infectious, heartbeat-hijacking rhythm section, building a perfect framing for Emily’s vocal artistry, utilizing live vocal effects to compliment her unique, jazz-influenced melodic chops and lyrical stylings (and the odd cheeky sax solo). The set combines songs from the many different eras of Emily’s illustrious song writing career, employing live band arrangements and sample trickery to pull them into the sonic realms of her most recent EP release “AUAHA”, taking audiences on a journey through the many versions of her, from heart-warming folk ballads, through groovy RnB & Neo-Soul vibes, to hard-pumping electronica tracks, there is never a dull moment when Emily and her band take the stage.
